For most people, making and keeping friends is as easy as it gets. For some, it’s like writing JAMB the 10th time. I find myself in between the two extremes. I have friends, “friends” and friends?.
I signed into facebook this morning and found out my “friends” now number 400 (well its actually 398 but with 2 other pending requests, that would make it 400). First thing that came to my mind was “how can?” I barely even know 400 people let alone 400 friends. But looking at it again, I think I do have friends, though most of them are online friends and colleagues at work which is where I spend most of my time anyway. Outside online (blogsville inclusive) and colleagues (current and former), I doubt if I have up to 10 friends out there.
I used to have them a lot but now, I just don’t know what happened.
In the past (like 15years ago), my friends used to be my fellow chess players, school mates, Man Utd supporters, neighbours and their friends too. Then (like 6-10 years ago) it changed to my “TGIF” crew, school mates, Man Utd supporters, “ex’s”, colleagues, neighbours and few online friends. Today, 95% of my friends are either colleagues, blogger’s (most of whom I barely even know) or facebook friends.
I am getting used to the “virtual” friendships. Damn…..i miss dem days when you always meet and hang out with your friends….like today Friday

wifey had to come first yeah?! anyways, i cant say i had friends back then i was more of thre friend to whoever let me be...but havng thos i could fall on, i actually have them, which i must say is very few (and mean very very few), now in my latter years so God bless and keep you all.

Yeah…I have 89 friends on facebook, that’s cos I recently did a clean up…everybody I added out of impulse who doesn’t correspond I deleted…
It's funny: when I first joined facebook and saw all these people with 50 or 100 friends, I scoffed and said "How ridiculous! I will never have that many people I hardly know or speak to on my facebook!" and of course, before I knew it, people from my past who I am not very close to but who I care about enough to want to receive updates on their lives every now and then have added me to their facebook and well, let's just say the number of 'friends' has jumped higher than I ever thought it would.
This virtual friendship thing is amazing though! If only we could teleport ourselves around the world and hang out with these friends as often as we wished!
I don't have a lot of friends...i can count the ones i have with one hand and most of them i'd known all my life....its not about the amount its about the quality.

i remmebered telling a blogger that i had only 14 friends on facebook and he said he had 700. i was like......( u know the expression now?) but now urs truly has 80friends(where did i get them from?)

So I want to go and clean out my friends list. I have like 40 pending friend requests and over 800 friends...they are people I know from school, church, organizations, work, etc...but they are not people I know know. And facebook is becoming an amaebo center fa real...
But like you said, there are friends, and there are friends. I think a person that has 2-3 real friends is blessed beyond measure.

i'm similar to GNG story, i now have about 600+ facebook friends and counting, once in a while i delete those i dont think i know or care for. But i think its a great way of networking. WHen i want to run for public office, i might be able to count on my virtual friends..lol
You can always look at it from the networking point of view. When you are networking you follow every lead and make your selections and even after that you still keep the leads you did not select saved for another time. Facebook friends are like that. You just dont know where its all leading.
the word friend is used to loosely on facebook but we cant do anything bcos we r addicted which itself is not a bad thing. They wanna take me to facebook rehab but i said no,no,no,no!

yeah virtual friends. they are our friends of facebook but the chances of meeting them are very low so whats the point. but facebook sef is addictive o. i have friends i don't know on facebook while in real life i don't have as many friends as i do online. thats life for u. congrats on ur wedding. cute couple.

I have a Q. How do u call an online person a friend? I guess the subject would be more than "friend," e.g. "blogsville friend" to differentiate from "real friend."

BTW I just wanted to add that if you went to a big high sch (like mine) u will have like one million friends...
So it is not shocking that my friends list is large...and I know all those people, and most of them are friends for real...lol (I hope no one is secretly hating on my friends list). But the catch is, not all of them are "close friends."
